Who I am

About Nooran

I grew up in San Jose, more specifically Almaden Valley, and have spent my whole life here. Like many of San Jose's residents, I am a proud first generation American.

My father and mother left the country of Iran and were able to immigrate to America. After living in nine states within the country, the choice was made to start a family in San Jose.

Having lived here since birth, the City of San Jose has treated my family and I with open arms. I was a student of Simonds Elementary, Bret Harte Middle School, and Leland High School, all schools I hope I can send my own children to in the future. However, in the current direction that the city is moving, soon few people will be able to afford living in the City. That is why I am running: To make sure that those after us will be able to have the same opportunities that we have had in San Jose.

Professional Experience

  • Co-Founder of a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization: Co-Founded and operating the Youth Care Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to providing educational and medical services to unhoused youth in the Silicon Valley. Currently launching a plant-based meal donation program.

  • Legislative and Policy Aide for San Jose City Council District 10: Having worked in the District 10 City Council office, I have been able to interact with countless D10 residents, answer their questions, help solve their problems, and hear out their concerns.

  • San Jose District 10 Parks and Recreation Commissioner: Appointed to the board of commissioners by Mayor Mahan, I had first hand experience voting on initiatives, developing the commission’s work plan, having productive discourse with other commissioners, and I have had the opportunity to dutifully serve my community.

  • Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management: As one of the youngest financial advisors in the country, having been hired and licensed at age 18, I had the opportunity to help issue PPP loans during the pandemic, advise clients, hear out their questions and concerns, identify their goals, and deliver suitable solutions. Series 7, Series 66, and California Life Insurance certified.

Community Involvement

As an active member of District 10, I:

Education

Having been a lifelong resident of District 10 in San Jose, I attended local public schools. The experiences that I have had in the public school system are invaluable to me and will allow me to bring a positive perspective to our community. I grew up in Almaden Valley and attended the following schools:

  • Simonds Elementary School

  • Bret Harte Middle School

  • Leland High School

I then went on to attend San Jose State University for my Bachelor's of Arts in Economics.
